Personal Mission Statement
Ryan Schultz – Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada – May 29, 2002
The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness
and the world’s deep hunger meet. Frederick Buechner, Wishful Thinking – A Theological ABC
Fearlessly and joyfully, I live where my deep gladness meets the world’s deep hunger. Every person, event and circumstance in my life is an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to become my whole, essential, true self before God.
And the only measure of your words and your deeds
Will be the love you leave behind when you're gone. Everything Possible, lyrics by Fred Small
Seen or unseen, with love, laughter, intelligence and creativity, I am a builder and a connector.
As a librarian with the University of Manitoba, I connect teachers, researchers, and students to the information they need. In my paid and unpaid roles as teacher, speaker, writer, and Webmaster, I connect people with facts, with ideas, and with each other.
I build community by being a laughing, giving, loving and forgiving member of my church, my choir, my family, my circles of friends, and all my social networks. I also use my talents and skills to help build a healthy, strong, proud queer community in Winnipeg.
I take responsibility for myself in any and all circumstances. Every day, I create a balanced, integrated life by taking the time to identify and honour my needs: physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual. I invest in myself by making choices to:
- Exercise my body, educate my mind, and rekindle my soul;
- Connect with other people and continue to forge healthy, loving relationships;
- Steward my career, time, money, and other possessions more effectively;
- Simplify my baggage, but complicate my perspectives;
- Continue to cultivate awareness and insight, casting aside my fear and despair.
